The pristine beach of Punta Cizul, formerly a private presidential retreat, is now home to 30 acres of the architectural sophistication Cancun had been waiting for. Ushering a new standard, Nizuc is a blissful marriage between Asian architectural forms, Mexican materials and Mayan iconography.
Using the ocean, coastline and the natural environment as his muse, designer Alejandro Escudero has achieved the difficult task of creating an intimate boutique hotel atmosphere on a grand scale. Set within a paradise of protected mangroves, local foliage and an almost surreal lush landscape, the retreat is home to 274 suites, 6 restaurants, 3 lounges and a 30,000 sqft spa.
East meets West in a seamless combination of indoor and outdoor spaces, minimalist lines and box-like forms warmed with natural materials and an earthly design palette.
“To instill the resort with Mexican spirit, Alejandro Escudero worked closely with the Museo Nacional de Antropología to replicate Mayan hieroglyphs; he incorporated 17th-century stone door-frames and a mural inspired by a 16th-century fresco from the Convento Agustino in the city of Malinalco”
Secluded yet accessible, the hotel is located only a 15 minute drive from the airport via a beautiful tree lined boulevard. Nizuc is a stark contrast to the white high rises that occupy Cancun’s hotel zone. It is also the perfect solution to one of the biggest challenges of a destination wedding: to find a suitable accommodation option for your discerning guests that also houses an aesthetically ideal wedding venue on site.
